Cowpoke 18B/Hostage Man, Day 2. 

 

Dave Friestad and Pete Williams make the final and only survivor p/u for Hostage Man.  Dave is shot down and then picked up shortly after.  Dean DeTar sends him home (Wold on R&R end of this day or next day?)…end of war for Dave.

1970 – April 22; A HH-53C from the 40th ARRS, crewed by Richard F. Hegewald (P), Dennis H. Sattler (CP), James E. Corcoran (FE) Richard G. Pambrun (PJ) and William A. Werber Jr. (PJ), rescued the co-pilot of a USMC OV-10 (Call sign “Cowpoke 18 Bravo”), Capt. D. Charles E. Hatch, after he and his pilot, Maj. 1970 – April 22; A HH-53C from the 40th ARRS, crewed by Capt. William A. Furst (P), J. B. Scoggins (CP), Maurice F. Tasker (FE) Douglas L. Horka (PJ) and Charles D. Morrow (PJ), rescued the pilot of a A-1J (Call sign “Spad 01”), Capt. David F. 1970 – April 22; A HH-43B from Det. 5, 38th ARRS at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand, crewed by Maj. Alfred W. Lamkin Jr. (P), unkn (CP), unkn (FE) and unkn (PJ), rescued the crew of a F-4D (Call sign “Falcon ?”), Maj. Thomas A. Rush (P) and Capt. Bruce E. Foster (CP) after their aircraft was hit while bombing a target seven miles southwest of Ban Ban, in northern Laos, and they nursed it back to about 10 miles south of Udorn RTAFB, Thailand where they ejected. “Vietnam Air Losses” by Chris Hobson & “PJ’s in Vietnam” by Robert L. 1970 – April 22; Six HH-53’s of the 40th ARRS rescued seven crew member of a EC-47P (Call sign “Cowpoke 18”?????), 1st Lt. R. M. Nasipak and six other unknown crew members, after their aircraft crashed when it was hit by ground fire about 20 miles SE of Hue. Two crew members, 1st Lt. George M, Wall and SSgt. Michael R. Conner were KIA in the crash. No other details are known at this time. “PJ’s in Vietnam” by Robert L.
