On This Date in OLAA History

1970 – April 23; A HH-3E from the 37th ARRS, crewed by Maj. Charles W. Bond (P), Leonard A. Seagren (CP), Joseph J. Vai (FE) and Dennis T. Duffy (PJ), rescued the crew of a, F-4D (Call sign “Stormy 03”), Capt. Michael W. Nelson (P) and 1st Lt. John D. Holmquist (WSO), after they ejected from their 23mm AAA damaged aircraft in southern Laos near the village of Tavouac. “Vietnam Air Losses” by Chris Hobson & “PJ’s in Vietnam” by Robert L. LaPointe…  Dean DeTar and Pete Williams flew this mission.

 

1970 – April 23; A HH-53 crewed by Maj. H. M. Berthold (P), unkn (CP), unkn (FE) and unkn (PJ), rescued one AC-130A (Named “War Lord”)(Call sign “Adlib 12”) crew member, SSgt. A. G. Fields. The rest of the eleven man crew, Maj. William Leslie Brooks, 1st Lt. John Cline Towle, Lt. Col. Charlie Brown Davis, Lt. Col. Charles Stoddard Rowley, Maj. Donald Garth Fisher, MSgt. Robert Newell Ireland, SSgt Thomas Yuji Adachi, SSgt. Stephen Warren Harris, SSgt Ronnie Lee Hensley and A1C Donald Michael Lint, were KIA when their aircraft was hit by 37 mm AAA fire over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in southern Laos about 25 miles east of the town of Saravan. “Vietnam Air Losses” by Chris Hobson & JRCC Save Form & “PJ’s in Vietnam” by Robert L.
