Mel Swanson takes command and Al Lundy becomes Ops Officer of OLAA. Mel gets very little time to acclimate as Pete Williams returns from leave???, and then DEROS’s with one day to brief Mel. The days of many Lts. and relative periods of manning stability have ended in June and will never be seen prior to the unit closing. The unit now has 4 Lieutenants, 4 Captains, 3 Majors, and 1 Lt. Colonel. When did Maj. Willard R. Van Dusen Jr. (???), Dick Kent, show up at OLAA???

Otis Morgan will be lost 4 days later and Bob Senko will soon leave (days…4 or 5) for training regarding the Son Tay mission.

Lt. Col. Melvin G. Swanson (Mel) assumes command of OLAA.

1970 – July 24; UH-1P gunships of the 20th SOS “Green Hornets”, crew’s unkn, supported the rescue of a MACV SOG team, RT Nail, from deep in enemy held territory in RVN. The “Green Hornet” gunships were supporting VNAF H-34 “King Bee” slick helicopters during this extraction. No other details are known at this time. “Secret Green Beret Commandos In Cambodia” by Lt. Col. Fred S. Lindsey, USA (Ret.)
