On This Date in OLAA History

A new commander and a total of 16 men are now on the OLAA Roster.  The change of command and increased number of pilots reflect new attitudes and new realities.  MACVSOG influence is now waning with North Vietnamese troops establishing base camps well within the South Vietnam borders.  By the end of 1970, one half of all SOG team missions will be occurring in country.  The 22nd Squadron at NKP is closing which is a reflection of how many A-1’s now exist and new emphasis for VNAF pilots to cover operations within their borders.  Early in 1971 almost 30 A-1’s will be given to the VNAF.  And, let’s not forget that the opportunity for unit commands is also decreasing and many minds are on “career enhancement” lost opportunities.  So, “changes are a happening”.
